Where it came from
Released in July 1989, The Punisher War Journal #6 serves as a significant entry in the second ongoing Punisher series published by Marvel Comics. This issue was crafted during a period when the character was at the height of his popularity, appearing in multiple simultaneous titles. It functioned as an expansion of the gritty, tactical aesthetic established by writer Carl Potts and artist Jim Lee, who was instrumental in defining the visual style of the series during this era.
The story was written by Carl Potts with interior art provided by Jim Lee, a collaboration that is highly regarded by collectors for its role in shaping the darker tone of late 80s Marvel storytelling. The issue is noted for its cover art, also by Lee, which captures the intense, grounded action that fans of the character expected. At the time of its release, the comic was well-received for maintaining the high production standards of the War Journal series and for its contribution to the expanded narrative arc of Frank Castle.
