The Sensational She-Hulk #37

Published in March 1992, The Sensational She-Hulk #37 serves as a notable entry in a series famous for its meta-fictional humor and fourth-wall-breaking narratives. During this period, the creative team leaned heavily into satire, often placing the protagonist, Jennifer Walters, in absurd situations that deconstructed comic book tropes of the early nineties. The series is frequently cited by historians of the medium for its transition from traditional superhero action to self-aware, comedic storytelling.

This specific issue was written and illustrated by John Byrne, who is widely regarded for defining the character’s definitive personality during his tenure on the book. Byrne’s artistic vision for this era focused on a glossy, high-fashion aesthetic that complemented the character's profession as a high-powered lawyer. Upon its release, the issue was received as a lighthearted departure from the darker, grittier trends dominating the mainstream comic book industry at the time.
