The Shaolin Cowboy: Staying A.I.Live #3

The Shaolin Cowboy: Staying A.I.Live, released by Dark Horse Comics, represents the latest iteration of Geof Darrow’s long-running, highly stylized independent comic series. First introduced in the mid-2000s, the Shaolin Cowboy chronicles the surreal, violent, and often satirical journeys of a nameless monk wandering a post-apocalyptic landscape. This particular issue continues the narrative arc that leans into contemporary anxieties regarding artificial intelligence, blending Darrow’s signature hyper-detailed line work with his characteristic blend of slapstick humor and existential dread.

Geof Darrow, an illustrator celebrated for his meticulous cross-hatching and dense, visually busy panels, serves as both writer and artist on this title. The aesthetic is heavily influenced by his background in animation design and his long-term collaboration with filmmaker siblings the Wachowskis. The series is widely respected among comic professionals for its technical precision and the singular, uncompromising vision of its creator, often garnering critical praise for its ability to convey complex action sequences entirely through silent, intricately rendered visuals.
