The Uncanny X-Men #442

The Uncanny X-Men #442, published in 2004, arrived during a transformative period for Marvel’s mutant franchise. Following the conclusion of Grant Morrison’s polarizing New X-Men run, the series returned to a more traditional aesthetic and narrative tone under the stewardship of writer Chris Claremont. This specific issue served as part of the 'The End of History' arc, which focused on the team's ongoing efforts to navigate the complex social and political aftermath of the X-Men’s recent public revelations.

The interior art for this issue was provided by Alan Davis, a legendary figure in the X-Men pantheon known for his clean, classic lines and dynamic character posing. Davis was tasked with grounding the team in a more recognizable environment after a long period of experimental storytelling. The issue was generally received by long-term fans as a welcome return to form, with critics often highlighting Davis's ability to balance intricate team-based action with the character-driven interpersonal drama that Claremont’s scripts are famous for.
