The X-Files Funko Universe One Shot #1

The X-Files Funko Universe One Shot #1 was published by IDW Publishing in 2017 as part of a crossover initiative between the comic book publisher and the Funko toy company. This series was conceived to capitalize on the aesthetic popularity of the Funko Pop! vinyl figures, translating the stylized, large-headed designs into a comic book medium. The project was intended as a lighthearted expansion of existing franchises, leaning into a playful, non-canonical approach that appealed to both long-time fans of the television series and contemporary pop-culture collectors.

The issue features work by artist Troy Little, who maintained a distinct, cartoony style to align with the Funko brand identity. By prioritizing a simplified, approachable visual language, the creative team aimed to offer a whimsical departure from the dark, paranoid tone typically associated with Mulder and Scully's investigations. Upon release, the one-shot was received primarily as a collectible novelty item, serving as a curious intersection of the massive vinyl-figure hobby and the enduring legacy of 90s science fiction television.
