Thor: Godstorm #1

Thor: Godstorm #1 was published by Marvel Comics in 2001 as the opening chapter of a three-part limited series. The project was crafted by writer Kurt Busiek and artist Steve Rude, emerging during a period where Marvel sought to revisit the foundations of its classic characters through prestige-format storytelling. The series was designed to explore the deep mythological roots of Thor, contrasting his ancient, divine nature with the changing landscape of the mortal world over several centuries.

Steve Rude’s contribution is widely noted for its distinct, dynamic illustrative style, which moved away from the more hyper-kinetic aesthetic common in the industry at the time. By utilizing a clean, classic composition that drew inspiration from Jack Kirby’s original visual language, Rude aimed to lend the story a sense of timeless weight and epic scale. The issue was generally well-received for this artistic synergy, serving as a contemplative study of Thor's longevity rather than a standard superhero action narrative.
