Tom & Jerry Comics #191

Tom & Jerry Comics #191 was published in 1961 as part of a long-running series originally produced by Dell Comics. This title was a cornerstone of the post-war American comic market, capitalizing on the immense popularity of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer theatrical shorts created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. During this era, the comics served to extend the anarchic, dialogue-free slapstick of the animation into a medium that allowed for more elaborate domestic and adventurous scenarios.

The interior art for the Dell run is noted for its adherence to the character models of the era, focusing on expressive movement and sequential humor. While many issues from this period featured work by studio animators and veteran comic illustrators who remained uncredited due to the studio-style production model, the series as a whole was highly regarded for its consistent tone and accessibility. It remains a significant artifact of mid-century children's entertainment, reflecting the transition of cartoon properties into established literary franchises.
