Where it came from
Turok, Dinosaur Hunter #2 was published in 1993 by Valiant Comics during the height of the independent comic boom of the early 1990s. The series served as a gritty, modernized reimagining of the classic Gold Key character, integrating the dinosaur-inhabited 'Lost Land' into a shared universe narrative that emphasized complex science fiction elements alongside traditional action tropes.
The issue featured work by writer Timothy Truman and artist Rags Morales, who sought to imbue the character with a more grounded, visceral aesthetic consistent with the dark, mature storytelling style popularized by Valiant at the time. The title was widely praised by collectors for its polished art and intricate world-building, helping to establish the Valiant Universe as a significant competitor to established industry giants during that era.
