Where it came from
Two-Gun Kid #122 was published by Marvel Comics in 1975, arriving during a period when the publisher was leaning heavily into the legacy of their Western titles by reprinting classic stories alongside new material. At this stage in the character's publication history, Matt Hawk's adventures served as a nostalgic bridge to the golden age of comic book cowboys, maintaining the aesthetic of the 1950s and 1960s while navigating the shifting tastes of the Bronze Age reader.
The issue features work consistent with Marvel's mid-seventies house style, emphasizing dynamic action and traditional Western tropes that had defined the genre for decades. While the Two-Gun Kid had previously undergone a transition into a more modern, satirical take in other titles, issue #122 retains the grounded, heroic characterization that fans of the original Western run expected, reflecting the company’s effort to balance character continuity with the evolving production standards of the era.
