Ultimate Marvel Team-Up #3

Ultimate Marvel Team-Up #3 was released in 2001 as part of Marvel Comics' ambitious Ultimate imprint, an initiative designed to modernize and reboot the company's core superhero mythos for a 21st-century audience. This specific issue features a collaboration between writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Phil Hester, focusing on a street-level encounter between the Ultimate versions of Spider-Man and the Hulk. The series served as a bridge between established lore and the grittier, more cinematic aesthetic that defined the Ultimate Universe.

The visual direction for the issue leaned into Hester's distinctive, angular style, which helped establish the grounded, intense tone of the early Ultimate titles. By recontextualizing classic team-ups within a contemporary setting, Bendis aimed to provide an accessible entry point for new readers who were unfamiliar with decades of dense continuity. Upon its release, the issue was noted for its balance of character-driven dialogue and the fast-paced, high-stakes action sequences that became a hallmark of the Marvel Ultimate brand.
