Ultimate Spider-Man #54

Ultimate Spider-Man #54, published in 2004, is part of the long-running Ultimate Marvel imprint, which sought to modernize classic comic characters for a new generation of readers by stripping away decades of complex continuity. This issue is a pivotal installment in the 'Hollywood' story arc, written by Brian Michael Bendis and illustrated by Mark Bagley, the primary creative team that defined the series' early aesthetic and grounded, character-driven tone.

The narrative follows Peter Parker as he deals with the surreal experience of a Hollywood film studio producing a movie about his alter ego, exploring themes of exploitation and the clash between public perception and private identity. The art by Bagley—known for his clean lines and expressive character work—perfectly captures this meta-commentary, receiving praise from critics at the time for successfully balancing the tension between the protagonist’s teenage anxieties and his superhero responsibilities.
