Ultimate X-Men #65

Ultimate X-Men #65 was published by Marvel Comics in 2006 as part of the Ultimate Marvel imprint, a line designed to modernize and streamline the histories of iconic superheroes for a contemporary audience. This issue served as a pivotal point in the 'Magnetic North' story arc, focusing on the complex sociopolitical tensions between mutants and humans within the Ultimate universe. At this stage in the series, the narrative leaned heavily into the darker, more visceral storytelling that defined the imprint's departure from mainstream continuity.

The issue featured writing by Mike Carey and artwork by Salvador Larroca, whose realistic, cinematic aesthetic was a hallmark of the series. Larroca sought to ground the heightened action of the X-Men in a gritty, high-stakes visual style that matched the volatile tone of the scripts. The series was generally well-received by readers looking for a serialized, self-contained take on the X-Men mythos that did not require knowledge of decades of traditional comic book history.
