Ultimate X-Men #71

Ultimate X-Men #71, published in 2006, serves as part of the 'Magnetic North' story arc within Marvel Comics' Ultimate Universe. This imprint was established in the early 2000s to reimagine classic Marvel characters for a modern audience, stripping away decades of complex continuity in favor of accessible, updated origins. In this particular issue, the narrative explores the tense political and personal dynamics surrounding Magneto and his interactions with the X-Men, reflecting the series' recurring themes of societal prejudice and the ethical dilemmas inherent in superhuman intervention.

The creative team for this issue featured writer Mike Carey and artist Salvador Larroca. Larroca, known for his clean, cinematic style, was tasked with maintaining the visual identity of the Ultimate line, which favored a gritty, realistic aesthetic compared to the traditional 616 continuity. The issue was received as a standard entry in a long-running series that sought to balance high-stakes action with character-driven drama, typical of the creative direction that defined the Ultimate brand during its mid-2000s tenure.
