Ultimate X-Men #74

Ultimate X-Men #74, released in 2006, serves as a pivotal installment in the 'Magnetic North' story arc. Written by Mike Carey with artwork by Salvador Larroca, this issue continues the series' attempt to modernize and provide a grounded, cinematic reimagining of the classic X-Men mythos for a 21st-century audience, stepping away from decades of established continuity to build a fresh narrative foundation.

The issue focuses on the aftermath of the team's confrontation with Magneto and the subsequent political fallout regarding mutant rights. Salvador Larroca’s clean, expressive lines and realistic character renderings were instrumental in defining the 'Ultimate' aesthetic, which sought to bridge the gap between traditional comic book stylization and contemporary visual media. At the time of its release, the series was well-regarded for its fast-paced, high-stakes storytelling that prioritized moral ambiguity over the traditional heroics of the main Marvel Universe.
