Where it came from
Uncle Scrooge #88, released in 2011 by Boom! Studios, represents a brief but notable chapter in the history of Disney comics. During this era, Boom! held the licensing rights to publish Disney titles, often blending classic reprints with new stories that maintained the stylistic traditions established by Carl Barks and Don Rosa. This issue serves as an example of the publisher's commitment to preserving the Duckburg legacy while navigating the contemporary comic market before the license transitioned to IDW Publishing.
The issue features artwork and narrative sensibilities heavily influenced by the foundational aesthetic of the Disney ducks. Designers and editors of the Boom! run aimed to satisfy long-time enthusiasts through faithful characterizations and traditional art styles. While it functioned as a standard monthly release within their broader Disney line, it was generally well-received by fans for its effort to keep the adventures of the richest duck in the world accessible to a new generation of collectors.
