Where it came from
Undiscovered Country #35 serves as a significant installment in the sprawling, high-concept science fiction epic created by Scott Snyder and Charles Soule, with intricate visual storytelling provided by Giuseppe Camuncoli and Leonardo Marcello Grassi. Launched in 2020 by Image Comics, the series explores a future where the United States has been sealed off from the rest of the world for generations, creating a volatile, surreal landscape that the creative team designed to reflect contemporary anxieties regarding isolationism and political division.
The creative process behind the series focused on a cinematic, world-building approach that required a high degree of collaboration between the writers and the art team to maintain the dense, layered aesthetic of the quarantined nation. As the series progressed into the thirties, the narrative tightened its focus on the existential stakes for the main expeditionary team, continuing the tradition of the series being lauded for its bold scope and the consistency of its visual world-building.
