Usagi Yojimbo #101

Usagi Yojimbo #101 was published in 2007 as part of the long-running comic book series created, written, and illustrated by Stan Sakai. The series follows Miyamoto Usagi, an anthropomorphic rabbit ronin navigating a fictionalized version of Edo-period Japan. Sakai, a master of clean-line aesthetic influenced by both manga and classic Japanese cinema, intended the series to blend historical drama with adventure, consistently grounding the fantastical premise in genuine research.

This specific issue occupies a stable place within the wider Fantagraphics and Dark Horse publication history of the character. By the time this issue was released, Sakai had established a dedicated readership and a reputation for narrative consistency, a rarity in long-form serialized comics. The issue reflects the author's characteristic approach to character-driven storytelling, where the pacing often mirrors the deliberate, observant style of chanbara films.
