Usagi Yojimbo #46

Usagi Yojimbo #46 was published in 1992 during the series' tenure at Mirage Studios. Created, written, and illustrated by Stan Sakai, the long-running comic follows the adventures of Miyamoto Usagi, a rabbit ronin in late 16th and early 17th-century Japan. This specific issue is part of the original ongoing narrative that blends meticulous historical research with anthropomorphic storytelling, reflecting Sakai's lifelong interest in samurai cinema and Japanese folklore.

The aesthetic of this era of Usagi Yojimbo was defined by Sakai's clean, expressive line work and his commitment to visual storytelling, which often prioritized clarity and kinetic movement over elaborate coloring. By the time this issue was released, the series had already garnered significant critical acclaim for its consistent quality and unique tonal balance, establishing Sakai as a master of the medium and cementing the title's reputation as a cornerstone of independent comics.
