Valiant Beyond: X-O Manowar #4

X-O Manowar #4, released as part of the Valiant Beyond initiative, represents the modern iteration of the publisher's flagship character. This relaunch was conceived to modernize the Aric of Dacia mythos, focusing on the character's struggle to adapt to the twenty-first century while navigating the political and physical ramifications of his sentient armor. The series was designed to emphasize high-concept science fiction elements while maintaining the visceral, grounded combat that originally defined the Valiant universe in the early 1990s.

The creative direction for this relaunch was led by writer Dennis Hopeless and artist Emilio Laiso, who aimed to blend the character's warrior sensibilities with contemporary social commentary. The visual style reflects a departure from the gritty aesthetic of the 90s, leaning into a sleeker, more kinetic artistic approach that highlights the armor's alien biotechnology. Upon release, the series was received as a accessible entry point for new readers while satisfying long-time fans looking for a fresh perspective on the character's internal conflict.
