Valiant Beyond: X-O Manowar - The God Hunt #2

The God Hunt miniseries, launched in 2024 as part of the Valiant Beyond initiative, serves as a modern re-examination of Aric of Dacia, the warrior bonded to the sentient Shanhara armor. This narrative arc was designed to strip the protagonist of his typical cosmic support structures, forcing a return to the visceral, grounded action that defined the character’s earliest appearances in the 1990s. The editorial team sought to revitalize the core conflict between Aric’s internal moral compass and the overwhelming, god-like power of the Manowar armor.

Writer Becky Cloonan and artist Javier Pulido collaborated on this series to bridge the gap between classic Valiant tropes and contemporary pacing. Pulido’s illustration style emphasizes bold, clear line work and dynamic kinetic energy, deliberately moving away from the hyper-detailed digital art prevalent in the 2010s to evoke a more timeless, graphic-novel aesthetic. The reception from long-term fans has focused on this shift in tone, viewing it as a successful effort to restore the character's status as a formidable terrestrial force.
