Vampirella #12

Vampirella number 12 was published in June 1971 by Warren Publishing during the height of the magazine-sized horror comic boom. It follows the established format of the era, which relied on the combination of dark, atmospheric storytelling and high-quality artistic contributions to bypass the restrictive Comics Code Authority. The title character, created by Forrest J Ackerman and Trina Robbins, served as a vehicle for genre-blending tales that sat between classic horror and science fiction pulp.

The cover art for this issue was produced by Sanjulián, a Spanish artist who became synonymous with the visual identity of the Vampirella series. His approach focused on cinematic realism and dramatic lighting, which helped distinguish Warren's publications on newsstands. This period of the series is noted by scholars for refining the character's aesthetic before her eventual shift toward more mainstream superhero-adjacent tropes later in the decade.
