Vampirella #11

Vampirella number 11 was published by Warren Publishing in April 1971 during the height of the black-and-white horror comics boom. As part of Warren's shift toward high-quality, magazine-sized storytelling, this issue leaned heavily into the psychedelic and gothic atmosphere that defined the era's counter-culture aesthetic. It served as a showcase for the magazine's commitment to sophisticated horror anthologies, contrasting traditional comic book formats with a more mature, cinematic narrative structure.

The cover art for this issue was illustrated by the celebrated artist Sanjulian, whose work is synonymous with the series' iconic visual identity. His contribution to issue 11 reflects the atmospheric, painterly style that helped elevate Vampirella from a simple genre character to a pop-culture touchstone. The design intentionally combined classical romantic motifs with the dark, provocative themes of 1970s horror fiction, a creative choice that was well-received by fans of the Warren stable for its technical prowess and stylistic ambition.
