Vampirella #3

Vampirella #3 was published in early 1970 by Warren Publishing, following the successful debut of the horror-fantasy anthology title in 1969. Created by Forrest J Ackerman and Trina Robbins, the character of Vampirella was designed to tap into the burgeoning popularity of gothic horror and sexually liberated comic storytelling. This issue continued the magazine's tradition of blending noir aesthetics with supernatural themes, serving as a platform for both established and rising talent in the underground and mainstream comics movements of the era.

The cover art for this issue was produced by Frank Frazetta, an illustrator whose work defined the visual identity of the Vampirella series. Frazetta utilized a dramatic, painterly style that emphasized the character's formidable presence and striking appearance, moving away from traditional superhero art toward the sensibilities of fantasy fine art. The magazine was well-received by its niche audience for its high production values and its departure from the strictures of the Comics Code Authority, which allowed the publication to push boundaries in narrative complexity and artistic expression.
