Where it came from
Video Jack was a British comic anthology series published by IPC Magazines during the mid-1980s, primarily targeting the burgeoning home video and gaming culture of the era. Issue number 5 emerged at a time when publishers were attempting to capitalize on the rapid growth of the video cassette market, blending traditional comic strip storytelling with reviews and features on the latest home entertainment releases.
The publication leaned into a bold, high-contrast aesthetic typical of mid-80s British youth comics, often utilizing punchy line art and vibrant color palettes designed to catch the eye of newsstand browsers. It was received as a niche experiment that sought to bridge the gap between static comic narratives and the interactive, fast-paced nature of emerging video game technology, reflecting the period's fascination with domestic screen entertainment.
