Wakiyaku no Kōshaku Reijō wa Kaikishi, Honmono no Akujo to Nari Warai Ayumu #1

Wakiyaku no Kōshaku Reijō wa Kaikishi, Honmono no Akujo to Nari Warai Ayumu, or The Supporting Duke's Daughter Refines, Becomes a True Villainess, and Laughs, debuted as part of the flourishing genre of villainess light novels and manga within the Japanese publishing market. The story follows the standard tropes of the genre, where a protagonist finds herself reincarnated into the role of a minor antagonist in a fictional world, only to subvert the expected narrative by embracing her role with a unique, often humorous or empowering twist. This first volume serves to establish the world-building, introduce the protagonist’s shift in agency, and set the tone for the series' subversion of typical noble-romance archetypes.

The character design and visual narrative for the manga adaptation are crafted to align with contemporary shojo and josei aesthetic standards, utilizing expressive art styles to contrast the protagonist's internal monologue with the rigid social expectations of the aristocracy. As with many titles in this category, the series gained traction through digital serialization platforms before receiving a physical release. It has been received as a lighthearted contribution to the saturated villainess market, noted by fans for its focus on the protagonist's strategic maneuvering rather than purely romantic entanglement.
