Where it came from
Released in the mid-1950s as part of Dell Comics' extensive line of licensed Disney publications, Daisy and Donald #17 reflects the post-war expansion of comic books targeting young readers. This period was defined by the dominance of Gold Key and Dell in the American market, which relied on the established charm of Disney’s animated stable to maintain high circulation numbers during the medium's golden age.
The issue features the characteristic aesthetic of mid-century Disney comics, utilizing the clear, functional art style associated with the Walt Disney Studio’s internal comic unit. These stories were typically collaborative efforts created by staff writers and illustrators rather than singular auteurs, designed to mirror the tone of contemporary animated shorts while providing lighthearted, episodic entertainment for children.
