Walt Disney Daisy and Donald #2

Released in 1951 by Dell Comics as part of the Four Color series, Daisy and Donald number 2 represents the Golden Age of Disney comic books. During this era, Dell held the lucrative license to produce Disney-themed titles, which were aimed at a mass-market audience of children and families. The comic functioned as an expansion of the studio’s animated shorts, capitalizing on the established chemistry between the two iconic waterfowl to drive consistent readership.

The interior stories were produced by the talented creative teams at Western Printing and Lithographing Company, which handled the editorial and artistic output for Dell. While the writing often relied on established tropes of domestic comedy and slapstick, the visuals were characterized by the clean, expressive character designs mandated by the Disney studio’s strict style guides. The issue was received as a standard but highly popular piece of disposable children’s entertainment, typical of the high-volume, low-cost print runs that defined mid-century American newsstand comics.
