Web of Spider-Man #28

Web of Spider-Man #28 was published in July 1987 during a period of transition for the character’s supporting cast and narrative direction. As part of Marvel’s ongoing efforts to manage the expanded Spider-Man line—which included The Amazing Spider-Man, The Spectacular Spider-Man, and Web of Spider-Man—this issue served as a standalone chapter that balanced episodic superhero action with the evolving interpersonal dramas that defined Peter Parker’s life at the time.

The issue features cover art by Charles Vess, whose distinctive, painterly style brought a more atmospheric and illustrative quality to the title compared to the standard house style of the era. The story itself highlights the classic tension between Spider-Man’s heroic responsibilities and his precarious civilian life, a hallmark of the series under the editorial guidance of the late eighties. It remains a representative artifact of the mid-to-late eighties bronze-to-copper age bridge, appreciated by collectors for its specific aesthetic contribution to the Spider-Man canon.
