Web of Spider-Man #40

Published in July 1988, Web of Spider-Man #40 serves as a pivotal entry in the series, featuring a narrative penned by Gerry Conway with interior art by Alex Saviuk. The issue emerged during a transitional period for Spider-Man titles, as the character's core narrative was being tightly integrated across multiple monthly publications. This specific installment is notable for its exploration of Peter Parker's dual existence, maintaining the grounded, soap-opera-infused drama that defined the late-eighties Marvel aesthetic.

The cover art, rendered by John Romita Sr., captures the classic sensibility of the character, drawing upon decades of established visual language. Within the context of the series, the book functions as a bridge between major crossover events, reflecting the era's editorial push toward interconnected storylines. While it is not considered a marquee key issue in terms of first appearances or major character deaths, it is held in high regard by enthusiasts for its consistent characterization and the collaborative stability of the creative team during that phase of Spider-Man's publishing history.
