Web of Spider-Man #44

Web of Spider-Man #44, published by Marvel Comics in November 1988, serves as a pivotal installment during a period of transition for the character. It features the work of writer Gerry Conway and artist Alex Saviuk, who was a defining visual force on the title during this era. The issue is noted for its involvement in the broader narrative threads of the late eighties Spider-Man landscape, reflecting the gritty, street-level storytelling that characterized the Web of Spider-Man series compared to the more cosmic or high-stakes action found in the flagship Amazing Spider-Man title.

The cover art, rendered by Alex Saviuk, captures the quintessential aesthetic of the bronze-to-modern age transition. Saviuk was known for a clean, consistent style that provided stability during a time when the character's publication schedule was rapidly expanding across multiple monthly titles. Fans and critics generally regarded this period as a reliable era for the character, appreciating the issue for its adherence to classic superhero tropes and the steady, dependable pacing that Conway brought to his scripting of Peter Parker's dual life.
