Where it came from
Weird War Tales number 25 was published by DC Comics in 1974 during the height of the Bronze Age of comic books. This series was an anthology title that effectively blended the combat genre with the publisher's penchant for supernatural and horror-themed storytelling. It emerged at a time when the Comics Code Authority allowed for more mature, darker subject matter, enabling DC to move away from strictly heroic war narratives toward more psychological and eerie tales of the battlefield.
The issue features cover art by Luis Dominguez, a prolific illustrator known for his atmospheric and tension-filled contributions to DC's horror anthology line. Dominguez's work on this series was highly regarded for its ability to convey a sense of dread and mystery within a single, striking image. The creative team aimed to maintain the high standards of illustrative quality that defined the 1970s DC horror books, which were frequently praised by readers and peers for their cohesive, moody aesthetic.
