Weird War Tales #28

Weird War Tales #28 was published by DC Comics in 1974 during the Bronze Age of comic books. This series was part of DC’s successful strategy to blend traditional war-themed stories with supernatural, horror, and science fiction elements, catering to an audience that grew tired of conventional combat narratives. The title was known for its anthology format, featuring multiple short stories per issue that often explored the irony of warfare through macabre twists.

The creative direction of the series was heavily influenced by editorial oversight that prioritized atmospheric, suspenseful storytelling. The cover art and interior illustrations of this era often relied on the talents of artists like Joe Kubert, who served as a major creative force behind the DC war line. By blending gritty, realistic military depictions with surreal, otherworldly threats, the series achieved a distinct identity that helped it sustain a run of over 120 issues, standing out as a unique bridge between the horror and war genres of the 1970s.
