Weird War Tales #74

Weird War Tales #74 was published by DC Comics in April 1979 as part of their long-running anthology series that blended historical war fiction with supernatural or horror-themed twists. During this era, the series maintained its niche appeal by focusing on the irony and grim nature of combat, often featuring the ongoing 'The Creature Commandos' feature, which introduced a group of classic horror monsters fighting as military operatives in World War II.

The issue features cover art by Joe Kubert, a foundational figure in DC's war titles whose gritty, expressive style was instrumental in defining the visual language of the genre. As the series progressed through the late 1970s, it moved toward increasingly experimental narratives under various writers and artists, consistently aiming to balance traditional war-story tropes with the weird-fiction sensibilities that had become a staple of the title since its debut in 1971.
