Weird War Tales #76

Weird War Tales #76 was published by DC Comics in June 1979 as part of a long-running anthology series that blended military history with supernatural horror. During this period, the title was a staple of DC's 'war' line, which moved away from pure battlefield realism to incorporate ghosts, monsters, and science fiction elements, reflecting a shifting cultural interest in genre-bending narratives following the Vietnam War.

The issue features cover art by Joe Kubert, whose visceral, kinetic style defined much of DC's war output throughout the 1970s. Kubert's work on the series was highly regarded for its dramatic compositions and ability to balance the grim realities of combat with the fantastical, eerie tone required for the anthology, helping the series maintain a loyal following even as the mainstream comic book industry transitioned toward more serialized superhero storytelling.
