Weird War Tales #98

Weird War Tales #98 was published by DC Comics in April 1981, emerging during a period when the publisher was leaning heavily into anthology-style horror and war hybrid storytelling. This issue continued the title's long-running tradition of blending gritty combat scenarios with supernatural, often ironical twists, a format that flourished under the editorial guidance of the era to distinguish DC's war titles from more conventional genre counterparts.

The issue features work from creators synonymous with the bronze age of comics, characterized by a commitment to atmosphere and the macabre. The aesthetic of the book reflects the distinct, moody illustrative style favored by DC’s late seventies and early eighties horror imprints. At the time of its release, the title served as a reliable outlet for writers and artists to experiment with dark fantasy narratives, often garnering a dedicated cult following among readers who appreciated the shift away from standard superhero tropes.
