Weird War Tales #119

Weird War Tales #119 was published by DC Comics in January 1983 as part of a long-running anthology series that blended military history with supernatural horror. During this period, the series leaned heavily into grim storytelling, often featuring the ongoing Creature Commandos, a team of classic movie monsters drafted into the Allied forces during World War II. The title was a staple of DC's 'Bronze Age' era, providing a platform for eclectic short stories that deviated from the traditional superhero formula.

The cover art for this issue was executed by Joe Kubert, a foundational figure in war comics whose gritty, ink-heavy style was synonymous with the series' aesthetic. Kubert, who served as a primary artistic influence on the line, sought to evoke the tension and visceral stakes of the battlefield. The book was received as a standard entry in the twilight of the title's original run, which concluded shortly thereafter in 1983, reflecting the broader market shift away from war-themed anthologies.
