Werewolf by Night #8

Werewolf by Night #8 was published in September 1973 during the height of the Bronze Age of comic books. Marvel Comics launched this series to capitalize on the popularity of horror-themed narratives, which had been revitalized following the 1971 revision of the Comics Code Authority guidelines. This particular issue follows the ongoing struggle of Jack Russell as he grapples with his lycanthropic curse, set against the backdrop of the gritty, occult-tinged storytelling that defined Marvel's supernatural imprint during the early 1970s.

The issue features artwork by Mike Ploog, a defining creative force for the character who helped establish the moody, cinematic aesthetic of the series. Ploog’s distinctively atmospheric approach was highly regarded for its ability to balance traditional superhero dynamics with classic gothic horror sensibilities. The series as a whole served as a vital testing ground for new characters, most notably marking the first appearance of Ghost Rider (Johnny Blaze) in earlier issues, which helped solidify its place as a significant title for collectors interested in the evolution of Marvel's darker pantheon.
