What If...? Jessica Jones #1

This issue serves as a standalone entry in the long-running Marvel Comics What If...? anthology series, which explores alternate realities by reimagining pivotal events in the lives of established characters. Published as part of the broader What If...? initiative, the narrative re-examines the origin and trajectory of Jessica Jones, a character originally introduced in the darker, more mature Alias series by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos. It is designed to provide fans of the character a glimpse into a divergent path, posing hypothetical questions about her choices and the consequences of her power-set within the wider Marvel Universe.

The creative team behind this specific exploration focused on maintaining the noir-inflected tone that defined the character's breakout success while adapting it to the classic What If...? format. The art style and narrative structure were intended to honor the grit of the original Alias run while utilizing the speculative nature of the anthology to test the boundaries of her narrative agency. Upon release, the issue was received as a respectful exercise in character study, appreciated by readers for its commitment to the cynical, complex interiority that has remained a hallmark of Jessica Jones since her debut.
