Wonder Woman #172

Published in September 1967, Wonder Woman #172 occupies a distinct transition point in the history of the character. During this mid-1960s period, DC Comics experimented with shifts in tone and artistic direction to remain competitive within a changing market. This particular issue features the work of writer Robert Kanigher and artist Ross Andru, who was a mainstay on the title for years. The narrative follows the established aesthetic of the Silver Age, blending mythological roots with the era's preference for self-contained, sometimes whimsical superhero adventures.

The creative intent behind this era was often focused on maintaining a light, accessible tone for a younger audience, frequently leaning into science fiction elements and evolving character dynamics. Ross Andru’s clean, kinetic lines were instrumental in defining the visual language of Diana during this decade. While this specific issue is not among the most famous in the series, it remains a representative artifact of the mid-century editorial style that sought to navigate the cultural push and pull of the 1960s before the character underwent her more radical 'Mod' era transformation shortly thereafter.
