Wonder Woman #23

Wonder Woman #23, released in the spring of 1947, arrived during a pivotal era for the character under the stewardship of creator William Moulton Marston. By this point in the series, the book had firmly established its unique mythological foundation, blending Greek legend with mid-century Americana. The cover art and interior illustrations reflect the house style of the DC editorial office, which sought to balance action-oriented heroics with the character's core mission of promoting justice and peaceful resolution.

The issue features the work of artist H.G. Peter, whose distinctive, flowing style and clean lines were instrumental in defining the visual language of the Golden Age Wonder Woman. Peter was known for his ability to handle the eccentric demands of Marston’s scripts, including complex mythological allegories and imaginative gadgetry. Like many issues of the period, the story was intended for a young readership, yet it was produced during a time when the character faced increasing scrutiny regarding her thematic complexity and role as a burgeoning feminist icon.
