Wonder Woman #22

Wonder Woman number 22, released in the spring of 1947, arrived during a transformative era for DC Comics. Following the conclusion of World War II, the series began to pivot away from the overt wartime themes of its early years toward more whimsical, mythological, and adventurous storylines. This issue captures the established creative rhythm of the period, featuring the signature style of H.G. Peter, whose distinctive, classical-inspired art gave the character her unique visual identity during the Golden Age.

The narrative within this issue reflects the intent of writer and creator William Moulton Marston and his collaborators to balance feminist themes with conventional comic book tropes of the time. The design and aesthetic choices were deeply rooted in the artistic sensibilities of the 1940s, characterized by bold lines and theatrical compositions intended to appeal to a broad readership. As part of the long-running series, the issue stands as a historical artifact documenting the evolution of Diana Prince as she transitioned from a battlefield hero to a foundational icon of the comic book medium.
