Wonder Woman #97

Wonder Woman number 97 was published in April 1958 during the Silver Age of comic books. This issue arrived during a transitional period for the character, as the creative team continued to refine the mythological elements established by William Moulton Marston while adapting to the shifting sensibilities of mid-century storytelling. The stories from this era often leaned into lighthearted, fantastical adventures that reflected the imaginative, space-age optimism prevalent in American comics at the time.

The cover and interior artwork feature the hallmark style of Ross Andru and Mike Esposito, who were instrumental in defining the visual language of Wonder Woman throughout the 1950s and 60s. Andru’s dynamic action sequences and Esposito’s crisp ink work were intended to provide a sense of momentum and clarity, helping to maintain the character's presence in a market increasingly dominated by science fiction and monster-themed narratives. The issue is regarded by collectors today as a quintessential example of the mid-Silver Age aesthetic.
