Wonder Woman Annual #7

Wonder Woman Annual #7 was published by DC Comics in 1988, emerging during a pivotal era for the character following the 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' reboot. This period marked George Pérez's transformative run on the title, which sought to strip away the campier elements of the Silver Age and ground Diana in her mythological roots. The annual was designed as a prestige-format showcase, allowing creators to explore Diana's complex relationship with her divine heritage and the political tensions between Themyscira and the world of man.

The issue is noted for its intricate artwork and narrative density, reflecting the creative team's intent to elevate the character to the status of a modern Greek tragedy. By focusing on themes of duty, isolation, and the burden of divine expectation, the creative team aimed to establish a definitive, mature identity for Wonder Woman. Upon its release, it was received as a strong contribution to the ongoing effort to modernize the character, earning praise for its thematic depth and the visual consistency that defined the late-eighties era of DC storytelling.
