X #16

X #16 was released in 1995 as part of the X series, a title launched by Dark Horse Comics under its Legend imprint. The series was created and written by Steven Grant, with artwork largely defined by the stylized, moody pencils of artist Mike Okamoto. The project emerged from the mid-90s creator-owned movement, which sought to give writers and artists greater control over their intellectual properties outside of the traditional superhero publishing houses.

The series centers on the character X, a violent vigilante in the fictional city of Arcadia who marks his victims with an 'X'. Issue 16 continues the character's exploration of extreme justice and moral ambiguity, themes that were hallmark characteristics of the gritty comic landscape of the time. While the series was respected for its distinct visual identity and commitment to its dark noir aesthetic, it eventually concluded its initial run as the broader enthusiasm for independent, violent-protagonist titles began to wane in the late 1990s.
