Where it came from
X-Factor #147 was published in July 1998, serving as a concluding chapter for the title's original iteration during a period of transition for Marvel Comics' mutant-focused publications. This issue marked the end of the long-running series, which had shifted significantly in tone and character roster since its 1986 inception as a vehicle for the original X-Men.
The issue was written by Howard Mackie and illustrated by Jeff Matsuda, who worked to wrap up complex subplots involving the mutant government-sanctioned team. The artwork reflects the dynamic, stylized aesthetic prevalent in late 1990s superhero comics, capturing the tense atmosphere of a book nearing its final cancellation before the franchise underwent subsequent relaunches.
