Where it came from
Published in December 1987 by Marvel Comics, X-Factor #23 serves as a pivotal chapter in the 'Fall of the Mutants' crossover event. Written by Louise Simonson with interior art by Walt Simonson, the issue is celebrated for its dramatic confrontation between the original X-Men and the ancient entity known as Apocalypse, marking his first full appearance in the Marvel Universe after a brief cameo in the previous issue.
The visual design of Apocalypse, crafted by Walt Simonson, was intended to evoke a sense of ancient, inexorable power that stood in contrast to the more modern aesthetic of the era's mutants. The issue was well-received by fans and critics alike, credited with elevating X-Factor's narrative scope and solidifying Apocalypse's role as one of the X-Men's most enduring and significant antagonists.
