X-Force #42

X-Force #42 was published by Marvel Comics in January 1995, serving as part of the Phalanx Covenant crossover event that spanned several X-Men titles during the mid-nineties. The issue was written by Jeph Loeb and illustrated by Adam Pollina, representing a period in the franchise characterized by high-octane action and the aesthetic influence of the Image Comics movement. It centers on the team's ongoing struggle against the technorganic Phalanx, reflecting the darker, militaristic tone that defined the X-Force series under Loeb's tenure.

The visual direction of the issue was heavily influenced by the hyper-stylized anatomy and dynamic layouts common in 1990s comic book art. Adam Pollina’s contributions are often cited by collectors for their distinctive, angular linework, which distinguished the title from the more traditional house styles of the time. Upon its release, the issue was primarily received as a standard installment in a larger serialized narrative, contributing to the broader lore of the Phalanx conflict rather than standing as an isolated milestone.
