X-Force #86

X-Force #86 was published in February 1999 as part of the long-running Marvel Comics series following the mutant paramilitary team. This issue serves as a chapter in the Operation: Zero Tolerance era fallout, appearing during a period of creative transition for the X-books. The narrative focuses on the team's internal dynamics and the shifting landscape of mutant politics following the cancellation of the original Rob Liefeld-founded aesthetic, moving toward a more character-driven tone established by writers like John Francis Moore.

The interior art for this period was primarily handled by Jim Cheung, whose polished, detailed style provided a distinct visual evolution for the title. Cheung's work during this run was noted for bringing a sense of contemporary kinetic energy to the characters, moving away from the exaggerated proportions of the early 1990s. The issue is regarded by collectors as a mid-run curiosity, representing the stability of the X-Force brand before the team underwent significant roster and thematic overhauls at the turn of the millennium.
