Where it came from
X-Force #87 was published by Marvel Comics in March 1999 as part of the long-running X-Force series. This period in the franchise's history followed the post-Liefeld transition, where the creative teams sought to evolve the team's identity away from the hyper-aggressive aesthetic of the early nineties toward more nuanced character-driven storytelling.
The issue features artwork by penciler Jim Cheung, a prominent artist whose clean, modern style helped define the visual tone of Marvel titles during the late nineties. The cover and interior panels reflect the transition into the modern era of X-Men spin-offs, where the focus shifted toward the team's internal dynamics and their fluctuating relationships within the broader mutant landscape.
