Where it came from
Published by Marvel Comics in May 1999, X-Force #90 arrived during a transitional era for the mutant franchise. This issue features the creative team of writer John Francis Moore and artist Jim Cheung. It serves as a narrative bridge during the post-Onslaught period, focusing on the team's evolving interpersonal dynamics and the shifting geopolitical landscape for mutants within the Marvel Universe.
The visual direction provided by Jim Cheung reflects the slick, dynamic aesthetic prevalent in late nineties comic book art. Cheung, who was establishing himself as a significant talent at the time, leaned into the detailed character work and kinetic action sequences that defined the series. The issue was received as a standard installment of the ongoing run, noted by collectors for its contribution to the internal continuity of the X-Force roster during their time at the Xavier Institute.
